Practical Test
Before doing any driving you will have your eyesight checked. The examiner will ask you to read the number plate of a stationary vehicle. The distance requirement is 20.5 metres on old style number plates, or 20 metres if a new-style number plate is used.
You will be asked two vehicle safety questions, one 'show me' and one 'tell me' question. If one or both questions are answered incorrectly this results in one driving fault being recorded.
The driving part lasts about 40 minutes. The test is designed to make sure you can drive safely, know the highway code and can demonstrate your knowledge of this through your driving. The examiner will give you directions which you should follow. The test includes two reversing exercises, chosen from reversing around a corner, turning in the road and reverse parking. You may also be asked to do an emergency stop exercise.
You can make up to 15 minor driving faults and pass your test, however if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.
When the driving test is over, the examiner will tell you whether you have passed or failed. You can request feedback from the examiner on how you performed in the test.

You can take someone on the test with you, but the person must be over 16 years old and cannot take any part in the test.

You can bring your own interpreter for your practical test as long as they are over 16 years of age and they are not your driving instructor.
