Theory Test
The theory test has two parts.
1. Multiple choice
2. Hazard Perception
You need to pass both parts to pass the theory test.
Once you have passed your theory test, you can then apply to take your practical test.

The multiple choice part is taken using a touch screen computer.
Before the test you will be given clear instructions on how the test works. You are also given the choice of doing a practice session first, to familiarise you with how the test works. Once the practice session ends you will then go straight in to the real test.
You can go back and forth between questions, and flag any you wish to come back to later in the test.
Once the test has finished you can have a break of up to 3 minutes before the hazard perception part begins.
You will be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes.
The pass mark is 43 out of 50.

For the hazard perception part you will record your responses with a computer mouse button.
You will be shown a short tutorial video clip, so you know how this part of the test works.
You will be shown a series of 14 video clips, featuring every day road scenes. Each clip will have at least one developing hazard, apart from one clip that will have two developing hazards.
You won't be able to review your answers to this part, as like being on the road, you'll only get one chance to respond to a developing hazard.
The maximum you can score for each hazard is 5.
The pass mark is 44 out of 75.
